Open education and open access aren’t the same thing, but in the spirit of OPEN some information about Open Education during this year’s Open Access Week (that’s now: October 23-29, 2017).

If you’ve followed along for the past three years, the CARLI Preservation Committee’s motto could be considered ″Slow and steady wins the Preservation Race″! In response to the results from the 2015 CARLI Preservation Survey, the Preservation Committee has focused its resources on the explicit needs of CARLI members with annual projects about Audiovisual Preservation and Disaster Planning. This year, the Committee will focus our efforts on Communicating the Value of Preservation.
CARLI Senior Director, Anne Craig, has been traveling to member libraries around the state for ″Listening Sessions″ with CARLI library directors. These informal, approximately two-hour sessions have been very informative and successful. Please look over the list of remaining sessions and plan to join Anne. During these meet-ups, she is eager to hear about your library′s challenges and successes in order to more clearly understand our member's needs and to be able to relate your stories to stakeholders.

As a book conservator, I attended this workshop to continue my awareness of mold and the effects it can have on our library collection as well as learn about new treatments and if there are treatments that are no longer recommended. I was looking forward to the hands-on salvage demonstration so that I would be better prepared for a future water disaster. – M. Schoenborn

CARLI has joined the Open Textbook Network (OTN), a consortium of colleges and universities working to advance open textbook initiatives. OTN supports the Open Textbook Library, a searchable online catalog of complete textbooks available for faculty and students to freely use, adapt and distribute to best meet the needs of their courses.
With more than a thousand items at present, the Digital Newberry’s digitized items span from 16th-17th century rare books to contemporary documentary photographs.
CARLI staff have completed preparing the FY 2017 annual statistical reports package for I-Share libraries. I-Share library staff may download these reports from your library's CARLI FTP directory. CARLI compiled statistics for the reports using a date range of 7/1/2016-6/30/2017, inclusive. (Note: Some I-Share libraries also receive the Annual Statistical Package on an alternative fiscal year cycle. Those libraries will also receive this current set of reports.) The collection stat reports are snapshots, which are current as of the date at the top of each report.
