From The Encounter Student Newspaper (University of St. Francis) in CARLI Digital Collections.
Thirty years ago, the University of St. Francis students wrote about some Valentine's Day traditions around the world. The one I found the most interesting was this one: "In some areas in Italy, people hold a Valentine's Day feast on February 14. In Sicily, some young unmarried women get up before sunrise on Valentine's Day. They stand by their, windows, sometimes for hours, watching for a man to pass the house. Each girl believes that the first man she sees, or someone who looks like him, will become her bridegroom within the year." Can you imagine that?
During the Fall 2013 semester, the CARLI Instruction Committee hosted a three-part webinar series on assessment. All three recorded webinars are now available for you to watch, at your convenience.

The Illinois & Michigan Canal was once an important transport artery between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, but by the 1930s, the canal was in ill repair, and any significant commercial use was a distant memory. When the Civilian Conservation Corps was formed in 1933, work commenced on restoration of the I&M canal and the development of recreational amenities, eventually leading to the designation of the I&M Canal as a National Heritage Corridor in 1984. Lewis University’s CCC I&M Canal Photographs collection depicts the camp life and work of eight CCC camps, and the resulting fruits of their labor.
CARLI is beginning the first phase of the lengthy formal process of selecting and implementing the system that will ultimately replace Voyager as the software platform for I-Share. We do not plan to rename I-Share, but for clarity while we are still running Voyager and planning for its replacement, we will be using the phrase “I-Share Next” to refer to our future system.
