CARLI News

From The Encounter Student Newspaper (University of St. Francis) in CARLI Digital Collections.

Thirty years ago, the University of St. Francis students wrote about some Valentine's Day traditions around the world. The one I found the most interesting was this one: "In some areas in Italy, people hold a Valentine's Day feast on February 14. In Sicily, some young unmarried women get up before sunrise on Valentine's Day. They stand by their, windows, sometimes for hours, watching for a man to pass the house. Each girl believes that the first man she sees, or someone who looks like him, will become her bridegroom within the year." Can you imagine that?

We do not plan to rename I-Share, but for clarity while we are still running Voyager and planning for its replacement, we will be using the phrase “I-Share Next” to refer to our future system.

Changes to CARLI Membership Criteria and Benefits

This fall, as part of CARLI's ongoing efforts to gather information about member libraries, the CARLI Board and staff visited twelve CARLI Governing and Affiliate member libraries. Informed by these visits and previous Board discussions, the Board of Directors approved several changes to CARLI membership criteria and benefits at their December meeting. Beginning July 1, 2014, CARLI Governing member institutions must be Not-for-Profit, and the institution must be incorporated in Illinois.
