Resource Sharing Committee, 10:00am-11:30am

Thu, Dec 12, 2024 / 11:00am to 1:00pm

Location: Thomas Tredway Library, Augustana College, 3435 9-1/2 Avenue, Rock Island.

Campus Map. The meeting will be in the PBK conference room on the library's 2nd floor. The library is located inside the Gerber Center for Student Life. From Lot J, visitors enter the Gerber Center on the 5th floor. Go down the stairs, then straight down the long hallway to the elevators, which are located just to the left of the large stairwell. Take the elevators (or the stairs) to the 2nd floor, where they open to the library lobby. From the lobby, take the main library entrance and then turn right. The meeting is in the PBK conference room, which is the last door on the right-hand side. Staff will be there to direct you to the conference room. When visitors enter the Gerber Center, there is a staircase straight ahead. Anyone unable to take the staircase can use the elevator directly to the left of the entrance.

Parking: There are accessible parking spots beyond Lot J, closer to the Gerber Center entrance.

These “listening sessions” will be informal 2 hour sessions. The sessions will offer library directors an opportunity to talk about their library’s challenges and successes. Although the gathering is intended to be very informal, here are some questions that might help frame the day:

  • Are there opportunities that you see that you can’t take advantage of that maybe CARLI could help you with or leverage for you?
  • Are there other opportunities for collaboration that CARLI should be pursuing?
  • Are there best practices in your organization that exemplify collaboration through CARLI that we could share with the rest of the consortium?
  • Is there a program/service that you are conducting that could be leveraged at scale?

Registration: To register, please click on the "Register" tab above. The registration deadline is December 11. Please note, lunch will be served at the "listening sessions".

If you have any questions, please email CARLI at support@carli.illinois.edu.

Fri, Dec 13, 2024 / 12:00pm to 1:00pm

During this session, we may need to take time to review the previous projects or complete any work we started in previous sessions of the Excel for Library Projects Series. If we have time, we’ll continue working with the data from Project 3. Our goal will be to create a powerful report to get an overview of how journals and journal packages are used across the university, by subject. Or we might work on a different collection analysis report, depending on how the series has progressed. We may look at other tools that work well with Excel, especially Power BI.

Presenter:

Nat Gustafson-Sundell is a Collections Librarian and Professor at Minnesota State University Mankato. Previously, he was an Electronic Resources Librarian at Northwestern University. In his first career, he served as Treasurer (CFO) of a software company and Business Manager of a market research firm. At Mankato, Nat is a College of Business liaison and he leads journal collection development, licensing, acquisitions, and collection analysis. He collaborates with a Collection Management Technology (CMT) team on collection analysis. They have reported their leading edge work in presentations and publications. Learn more information about the CMT team’s work.
