Sources for Bibliographic Records

Last updated: February 19, 2025

CARLI expects that OCLC WorldCat will be the most likely and most common source for bibliographic data found in CARLI catalogs, especially in I-Share. Content providers and other vendors may also offer MARC records for specific collections and purposes. This page serves as a directory to several different sources of which CARLI staff are aware. CARLI recommends that library catalogers evaluate any provider's records before importing those records in their catalog.

Automatic Collection Loading

Several vendors participate in programs to automatically provide inventory data on a library's electronic entitlements. Both Ex Libris and OCLC have different sets of relationships for data to be loaded to Alma and Collection Manager respectively. These relationships may often include the loading of KBART data and sometimes include full MARC records as well. Library catalogers should inquire with vendors directly about the quality of the data included in any auto-holdings offerings.
