As of July 1, 2024: CARLI Governing Members have fulltext access to all subject areas for Wiley Online Books added to the Wiley Online Library platform from 2020 through June 2024. All titles have unlimited access for CARLI members through June 30, 2025 and may be used as course materials or for course reserves. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems; however, only titles purchased for perpetual access may be used to fulfill interlibrary loan requests. New online books will be added to the Wiley Online Library monthly through the end of our access period of June 30, 2024. All titles have unlimited access for CARLI members through June 30, 2025 and may be used for course materials or course reserves via direct link access. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems. Titles that have been purchased for perpetual access may be used to fulfill interlibrary loan requests of single copy of a book chapter. Please see information below for more details about access to the University of Illinois Press ebooks.
In July-August 2025, CARLI will purchase perpetual access ebooks from Wiley, Oxford University Press, and the University of Illinois Press based upon consortial usage data. CARLI Governing Members may purchase from these publishers, through June 30, 2025, at the rate negotiated for the CARLI agreement, additional titles with consortial access, please contact CARLI Support for more information.

Beginning July 2024, CARLI Governing Members have full-text access to a collection of ebooks from eight subject collections from Oxford University Press on the Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO) platform with publication dates of 2020-March 2025. The eight subject areas are: Biology, History, Law, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, and Sociology. All titles will have unlimited access and may be used for course materials or course reserves. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems. These titles have unlimited access and may be used for course materials or course reserves. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems; only minimal, insubstantial amounts of the titles may be used to fulfill interlibrary loan requests.
These titles have been added to Network Zone (NZ) for I-Share members, this means I-Share patrons have access to these materials through Primo VE.

FY21 member usage of Oxford University Press ebooks identified highly used titles that are available for free via Oxford’s Open Access Program.
CARLI staff have provided access to these materials for I-Share libraries in the shared catalog. For non-I-Share members, if you are interested in adding records for OUP Open Access Ebooks to your catalog, there is a OCLC Knowledge Base Collection for these titles.

University Press Scholarship Online (UPSO) platform
In July 2021, after reviewing usage information from the previous year, CARLI and members selected 364 ebooks for perpetual access for all CARLI members from 19 university presses. Individual CARLI members also purchased titles for perpetual access for all CARLI members from 19 university presses. Titles from these presses were originally available for consortial access during July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021.
These titles selected for perpetual access have unlimited access/use and may be used for course materials or course reserves. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems; only minimal, insubstantial amounts of the titles may be used to fulfill interlibrary loan requests.
These titles have been added to the Network Zone (NZ) for I-Share members, this means I-Share patrons have access to these materials through Primo VE.
Non I-Share CARLI members may download the MARC records for our purchased titles via OCLC Collection Manager as described below.

All CARLI Governing Members have access to all ebooks added to the the Wiley Online Library platform from 2020 - June 2025. The collection will grow monthly with newly published titles added through the end of our access period of June 30, 2025. All titles will have unlimited access and may be used for course materials or course reserves. Direct links may be embedded into course management systems; titles selected for perpetual access may be used to fulfill interlibrary loan requests. At the end of the access period, CARLI will select ebooks for perpetual access based upon criteria that includes usage.
This link to a spreadsheet of all available titles, Wiley Online Books List, will automatically update monthly to include the newly published titles within that month. From Wiley, “the spreadsheet is a biggie” – Members should refer to the tab, “All Live” as this will be the complete list of titles that they can currently access in any given month. Members should filter the "All Live" tab to those that were added to the platform from 2020 - current month (use Column S). If they are interested only in viewing the newly published titles for that particular month, they can refer to the tab “Newly Published”. For members that use special discovery services providers, those members can send their provider the spreadsheet to get started, but will also need to update their provider, monthly, with the list on the “Newly Published” tab to ensure that the new titles are discoverable for their users.

CARLI does not have a current contract with EBSCO for consortial ebooks. In 2000, the Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL), one of CARLI's three founding organizations, purchased perpetual access to ebooks from NetLibrary (now EBSCOHost ebooks).
All CARLI Governing Members have access to:

CARLI owns perpetual access to 1 user per title. If a user is looking at the fulltext of a title online, then no one else may view the fulltext. As soon as a user is no longer viewing the fulltext, the title is available for another to use.
There are no checkouts.
Terms of use vary by title. Most titles allow a portion of the title to be downloaded, printed, saved, or copied. Some titles allow the full title to be downloaded.
CARLI does not have a current contract with ProQuest. All information below is from the project that begin in 2014 and ended June 30, 2018.
All CARLI Governing Members have access to:
3,992 Ebooks on the ProQuest Ebook Central Platform.
From May – December 2014, CARLI had the EBL eBook PDA Pilot Project. At the end of the project, CARLI owned 3,858 ebooks and over the next four years, members had the opportunity to purchase additional titles with consortial access. Altogether CARLI owns 3,992 unique titles. Due to the nature of the pilot, if use demanded, then multiple copies of a title were purchased. Overall CARLI owns 4,035 ebooks. Here is the list of the 4,035 ebooks.
EBL was purchased by ProQuest in 2014. In June 2017, ProQuest merged its two ebook platforms EBL & ebrary into the ProQuest Ebook Central platform. With the transition from the EBL platform to the ProQuest Ebook Central platform, CARLI members’ institutional purchased (local) content and CARLI consortial titles are available from one site.
Due to the digital rights management (DRM), these consortial ebooks should not be used for course materials or library course reserves as our consortial access is not sufficient to support this type of use.
Users may view titles for five minutes in a 24-hour period before a prompt appears to establish a loan. A loan is also established if a user downloads a title. All loans are 7-days.
Terms of use vary by title. Most titles allow a portion of the title to be printed or copied.

The consortially owned ebooks on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform SHOULD NOT be used for course materials or library course reserves as our consortial access is not sufficient to support this type of use.
All CARLI members established authentication to EBL (predecessor to ProQuest Ebook Central) in 2014 with either EZProxy or Patron Login. During the transition from EBL to ProQuest Ebook Central in 2017, CARLI members that used EZProxy updated as necessary their EZProxy configuration stanzas.
Authentication is via a Where Are You From (WAYF) page that is maintained by ProQuest. Members should send an email to ProQuest Ebook Support (email: ebooksupport@proquest.com) to update their authentication information if there are any changes that include your institutional IP addresses, authentication URL (including changing from "http" to "https", or authentication system changes (moving from one authentication system to another).
