PDA Event: Turning Data into Action: Responding to Illinois Students' Need for Equity of Course Materials

In this webinar, hear how a diverse group of institutions are responding to Illinois students’ course material experiences and preferences expressed in the 2023 Illinois Course Materials Survey: Student Perspective. Representatives from College of DuPage, Lincoln Land Community College, Millikin University, Oakton College, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale will describe their institutional support and methods for distributing the statewide survey, their methods for analyzing and sharing the survey data, and what impacts and benefits have resulted.  

Presenters:

Amber Burtis (she/her) is a librarian at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She specializes in supporting student and faculty research in the health sciences. Amber’s professional interests include digital scholarship, equitable access to information, and health literacy. She spearheaded the Open Educational Resources initiative at her institution starting in 2020. 

Scott Ebbing is the Library Systems and Data Manager at Lincoln Land Community College.  Prior to assuming this role, Scott oversaw the Interlibrary Loan and then Access Services departments at Lincoln Land Community College, managing the Course Reserves collection.

Dr. Lauren Kosrow currently serves as the Digital Content and Open Access Librarian at College of DuPage and co-chair of the OER Steering Committee. In this role, she facilitates the Faculty Support Grant program and provides leadership for the college's textbook affordability initiatives. 

Tammy Kuhn-Schnell is the Library Dean at Lincoln Land Community College and directs LLCC's SCOERs grant and Illinois State Library-OER grant.

Michelle Oh is the Librarian for Open Access and Equity for Oakton College, a community college serving the north/northwest suburbs just outside of Chicago. 

Amanda Pippitt (she/her) is Library Director and University Archivist at Staley Library, Millikin University, where she has worked in various library roles since 2004. She holds an MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MA in anthropology from Northern Illinois University.
