George Mason University Libraries was one of 10 institutions selected to participate in Hampton University's Grant "Leading the Charge: Advancing the Recruitment, Retention and Inclusion of People of Color within the Library and Information Science Field", funded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, RE-246407-OLS-20. Project leads and researchers Kat Bell and Katara Hofmann will introduce anti-racist research methods used to investigate and improve the student worker experience. The project leads will also share recommendations, initiatives, and next steps springing up in year 2 of this work.
Panelists:
Katara Hofmann is the Peer Referral Coach Manager for the Teaching and Learning Team at George Mason University Libraries. She has worked for GMU Libraries for 12 years and leads Anti-Racism and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from GMU.
Kathleen “Kat” Kim Bell is currently Head, Assessment and Planning at George Mason University Libraries. In this role, she works collaboratively to support assessment, strategic planning, and DEI initiatives. She is currently Treasurer for the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) and serves on the Steering Committee the Conference on Academic Library Management (CALM). She is a 2018 graduate of the Minnesota Institute. Before joining Mason, she worked in a variety of archives, museums, and nonprofits. She holds a BA and MA in dance, an MLS from Texas Woman's University, and a Master of Science in Organization Development and Knowledge Management from George Mason University.
