Decisions

• The May 6, 2024 minutes were approved after links to draft documents are removed.
• The Forms part of the Archives and Special Collections Resources site is lacking anything in the Research and Reading Room section and could also use at least one example of a processing manual. A call will be put out for more submissions in these areas.
• Pam Hackbart-Dean presented a draft proposal for an online panel to be held potentially in September. Rebecca Fitzsimmons, Ashley Howdeshell and Meghan Ryan all volunteered to speak. Elaine Fetyko Page volunteered to moderate and monitor the chat during the session. The webinar will be held Wednesday September 18 at 1:00-2:00 p.m. and will be offered as part of the Professional Development Alliance.

Tasks Assigned

• Minutes taken by Elaine.
• Ashley will review any pending submitted forms and documentation for the website. Pam will submit a processing manual as an example for the Forms section of the website.
• Pam will update proposal for September program and write a brief publicity description. Speakers will submit biographies to the Workshops folder in Box by Wednesday June 19. The deadline to get this information into the June CARLI newsletter is Friday June 21.

Announcements

• Matt Gorzalski (Southern Illinois University Carbondale) will be joining the task force for the new year. Michelle Miller was thanked for her work on the task force this year as she steps down.

  • Elizabeth Clarage shared that the Society of American Archivists (SAA) is having their annual conference in Chicago; the Newberry Library will be hosting an open house either August 15 or 16 in conjunction with the conference – includes a tour of their preservation lab and the current exhibit on Mike Royko – limited space will be available

Discussion

• There was discussion on future webinars/workshops and topics. Possible topics brought forth:
• Accessioning (which could be online)
• Spring in-person workshop on processing
• Basic practical digitization webinar – what equipment to buy, how to get started
• “How to Say No” - dealing with donations & potential accessions that don’t have value

Next Meeting Dates and Deadlines

The Archives Task Force will meet next in August 2024. Time and date to be determined in the next few weeks.
