Decisions

  • Send suggestions for in-person programming ideas to Anne Craig by May 15th.
  • Share OER Summit details and request for CARLI support by late May.
  • Review and possibly revise Open Pedagogy workshop slides this summer.

Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Lauren Kosrow (College of DuPage): Course markings have been turned on. Author celebration honoring 90 faculty members who’ve authored OER over the past five years.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • Concordia University Chicago is hosting a webinar on Creating Your Textbook to Fit your Mission. Delmar Larsen, LibreTexts founder, will be a speaker.
    • Slides are available from the Mental Health in Library Settings Training Course held on May 8, 2024.
    • CARLI delivered grant recommendations to the State Library on May 1.

Discussion

  • FY25 In-person Programming Funding Needs – next steps; Suggestions due 5/15/24 to Anne Craig
    • Planning for an OER Summit to be held on November 1 at the ISU Alumni Center. There is some funding from MHEC and ILCCO so that costs will be minimal. The audience for this event is librarians, faculty, administrators, and “OER champions” in the state of Illinois. There will be invited speakers and facilitated conversations. Goals of the event are to connect people doing this work, give an overview of the state of OER and automatic textbook billing in Illinois, understand needs / possible responses, and identify shared goals. Next planning meeting is on May 15 to develop time, theme, and abstract.
    • Additional in-person workshops—consider regional sessions to accommodate travel.
  • Discussion of committee’s Annual Report. Plan to use numbers similar to previous years to make comparison easier.
  • Illinois State Library OER Grants – CARLI-led review process is complete. ISL is managing the remaining work.
  • OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER
    • Friday, May 10th, 17th, 24th: Elizabeth Nelson and Cari Didion
    • Monday, June 10th, 17th, 24th: Melanie Armstrong and Amy Pinc
    • Open Pedagogy Workshops – suggested review of program materials Discussion of value of extended examples in current iteration. Dee Anna Phares and Christina Norton are willing to look at updates this summer.
    • OER Community Chats – Committee decided previously to hold these twice in fall and twice in spring.
  • Creative Commons Certificate Program – Next session begins in June.
  • Open Illinois OER Commons Hub – no update
  • Illinois SCOERs – CARLI plans to request a no-cost one-year extensions; ongoing collection of data.
