Discussion

  • Anne Craig would like to know if the committee has Continuing Education needs for next year. The Committee decided that they would like to plan an in-person program for the coming fiscal year.
  • Interview summaries: Charity, Beth, and Arlie met with two librarians from National Louis University, one from Joliet Junior College, and one from Northwestern. National Louis librarians conducted a focus group with students to determine student needs related to AI and have been developing materials for faculty. Joliet Junior College also had a student focus group and has done some unique work in adding AI to the courses and providing faculty with information. Brendan Quinn from Northwestern has a group of 7 who developed an AI tool that sits on top of their digital collection. Students can type in questions and the tool pulls metadata from their collections. Given that his topic was more related to assistive AI, their colleague Michelle Guittar would be a better fit to give the instruction perspective.
  • After some discussion, it was decided that findings from survey could be briefly summarized in the panel program, with one hour and 15 mins for the program, focusing on the panelists and discussion.
  • The committee could consider exploring assistive AI in the next year.
  • Meeting concluded at 3:00 p.m.
