CARLI is pleased to announce three recipients of the 2021 CARLI Scholarship: Jacqueline Mann, Loyola University Chicago; Abigail Mastin, University of St. Francis; and Kate Swope, Northern Illinois University. The CARLI Scholarship, awarded for the first time in 2020, provides financial assistance to current employees of CARLI Governing Member Libraries pursuing graduate studies leading to a Master's degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 CARLI Scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Recipient Jacqueline Mann commented "I am beyond thankful not just to be awarded a CARLI Scholarship, but also for how welcomed into the professional library field I now feel upon receiving this award. I am so excited to continue my career in libraries by attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's iSchool, which the CARLI Scholarship will help me to do, and to further commit myself to long-term work in academic libraries."
"This scholarship award is such a boost to my confidence and reinforces my enthusiasm for the field. I'd like to thank the CARLI scholarship committee for their time and effort in administering the scholarships, as well as my library family at University of St. Francis for their support and encouragement, and my professors at UIUC for their dedication to the field and their students. I feel like I've been officially welcomed into the CARLI family!" said recipient Abigail Mastin.
The recipients were selected based on their responses to a personal essay question regarding their professional goals and objectives in pursuing a library career that demonstrates a commitment to the profession and the strength of their references.
Kate Swope noted, "I am thrilled to be one of the recipients of the CARLI Scholarship this year. This is a bit of a career change and, with one course complete, I am now even more eager to continue on this journey. Thank you CARLI Scholarship Committee! "
"We are thrilled to award three scholarships this year, and so pleased to be able to help support the education of the dedicated staff of our CARLI libraries," said CARLI Senior Director Anne Craig. "I am grateful to the Scholarship Fund donors who have so generously supported this important new program, helping CARLI to grow the profession."
The CARLI Scholarship was established in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of resource sharing by CARLI and its predecessor organizations. The scholarship is funded by donations. For more information about the CARLI Scholarship Fund or to donate, visit https://www.carli.illinois.edu/give.

CARLI staff have prepared the Alma annual statistical reports for the 89 I-Share institutions for fiscal year 2021 (July 1, 2020–June 30, 2021). The reports of each I-Share institution's collection and activity data are available in the institution's folder on the CARLI files server.
This is the first year the data is entirely from Alma and our staff have attempted to keep the reports as comparable to the Voyager reports as possible, although some of the fundamental differences between Voyager and Alma, particularly in the management and tracking of electronic resources, required some changes. For a full description of the annual statistical package see https://www.carli.illinois.edu/products-services/i-share/stats/almastatspck and/or watch the recording of the July 22, 2021 Open Office Hours which covered the annual stats and new Primo VE Union View (see more below). You can also review a pdf of the slides from the presentation.
Please note that files in the CARLI files ftp server are stored for 60 days, so you will want to download your statistics before the end of August. I-Share library directors and I-Share liaisons should have the credentials for connecting to the file server. Please contact CARLI support if you need assistance.
CARLI staff have rolled out a new view in Primo VE: the I-Share Union View. Like the I-Share union catalog that we had with Voyager and VuFind, the I-Share Union View allows users to search all resources across the 89 institutions participating in I-Share, including physical inventory, electronic inventory, and external data sources imported into local Primo VEs. External data sources include things like CARLI Digital Collections, institutional repositories, and LibGuides, which are otherwise only viewable in the institutional Primo VE interface to which they were added.
People affiliated with I-Share institutions will be able to log in to the I-Share Union View using the current authentication method they use for the institution's Primo VE. Logging in will allow them to place requests for physical items and view their account. In order to allow users to log into the I-Share Union View, I-Share institutions will need to permit their authentication system to work with the Union View. This work is similar to the permission that had to be granted in 2020 before going live on Alma and Primo VE. I-Share institutions, Liaisons, and Directors were sent email on July 22, 2021 providing more specific details on how to configure authentication for the I-Share Union View.
Individuals who are not affiliated with an I-Share institution may connect to the Union View and search the holdings of all I-Share libraries, although they will not be able to place requests for materials.
An FAQ about the I-Share Union View is also available. As always, if you need more information or assistance with the Union View, please contact CARLI Support.
As a reminder, Ex Libris is hosting a five-session webinar series on "Implementing Acquisitions". The sessions are free, but registration is required. Immediately following each session, CARLI staff host an informal follow-up discussion via Zoom to to review and discuss the information presented. Information on how to connect to these sessions is posted on the CARLI calendar.
The next Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE monthly update will be on Sunday, August 8, 2021. The August update will include a refresh (a new copy of data) for the CARLI sandboxes. If you have work in progress in a sandbox, please prepare for this data update. Looking further ahead, September will be what Ex Libris calls a "maintenance release", i.e., Ex Libris staff will focus on infrastructure work and there will be no software changes to Alma or Primo VE.
We would like to extend our congratulations to the many CARLI members who have been recognized for their excellence through awards and elections.
