It is time to collect the dates that ILDS locations will be closed during spring break. ILDS contacts should complete the survey by January 29 to allow time for us to share this information with RAILS and IHLS.
Libraries that have not opted in for delivery and will not be opting in during the spring semester do not need to fill out this survey.
We are seeking feedback regarding the performance of ILDS. Your feedback is key to the success of the ILDS program. Please take a few moments to complete the survey. It will remain open until 5 p.m. on February 9.
If you have questions or concerns regarding ILDS, please send an email to CARLI Support.
There are a few spots remaining in our February three-week course on open educational resources. Live sessions are scheduled for February 9, 16, and 23 from 3:00–4:30 p.m. Asynchronous materials for preparation of your first session will be shared with registrants on February 2.
This virtual course is designed to help the novice person learn about open educational resources and apply the information to building their own local programs and workshops.
Attendees should plan to attend each live session. CARLI is planning to offer this program multiple times throughout the year with the next course being offered in May 2021.
The program contains both synchronous (three live 90-minute Zoom sessions) and asynchronous materials (readings, videos, etc.) to be completed before each live session. The live sessions will include presentations, but the aim of the program planners is that these will incorporate a flipped classroom model to build community among participants as everyone shares and discusses the topics.
For more information or to register, visit the event page. Registration is available until February 1 or until the course is full (space is limited).
If you have any questions, please send them to CARLI Support.
CARLI invites you to a series of webinars focused on academic library support of undergraduate research from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. on March 25, 30, 31, and April 1. Attendees will learn about supporting students in remote research experiences, providing research consultations in a pandemic environment, integrating information literacy into undergraduate research, building relationships across campus to support undergraduate research, and more.
Presenters Ava Brillat & Lauren Fraliger; Merinda Hensley; Rebecca Starkey; Joanna Kolendo & Rosalind Fielder-Giscombe; Gina Hunter; Roxane Pickens, Larissa Garcia, Dee Anna Phares, & Kimberly Shotick; and Jason Kruse will share their expertise! Registration and additional information will be forthcoming. We hope you will be able to join us!
Following a successful session in December 2020, the CARLI Collection Management Committee (CMC) is continuing these informal chats via Zoom for this academic year to engage people working in collection management in informal networking and sharing on a variety of topics of interest in these difficult times. Each chat session is scheduled for an hour, however, the CMC does not want to cut off a robust discussion, so the session may be extended for an additional 30 minutes.
To register visit the CARLI Event Calendar, and access the registration tab on each event.
Future Chat Dates:
• February 11, 3:00–4:00 p.m.
• March 12, 11:00 a.m.–12 p.m.

Attendees will be able to unmute their microphones and/or utilize the chat for participation. We'll take turns sharing screens as appropriate.
Sessions will be recorded for CARLI Staff use; since fulfillment involves patron data, the CARLI office will evaluate if it is fitting and valuable to post segments of the sessions on our web site for later review.
To register visit the CARLI Event Calendar and access the registration tab on each event.
Session dates:

CARLI is currently preparing for the fiscal year 2022 selection cycle. The selection system will be open from the end of March to beginning of May. If you need information or estimates for a given product or you would like us to pull usage statistics, we will be happy to get that information to you before we open the system.
CARLI is working on a license with ProQuest to offer Syndetics Unbound to our member libraries. It is likely that libraries will be able to have free access this spring if they commit to a subscription. CARLI help is available to assist libraries in implementing Syndetics into Alma/Primo. Please watch for more information to be announced as soon as it is available!
CARLI is continuing to present our popular Open Offices Hours interactive web sessions on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m.
In the first 2021 session on January 14, the CARLI Staff listed several upcoming Alma and Primo VE continuing education opportunities from both CARLI and Ex Libris. Slides for this session are available as a pdf file. The full recording is available as well.
There is something in those programs for every staff member that works with these products, so please share the information about them with your colleagues CARLI's ongoing new open webinars in the areas of Alma fulfillment (i.e., circulation and resource sharing) and technical services are particularly noteworthy. There is no pre-requisite for attending these calls—you can join at any time and you do not need to attend each week.
CARLI is also seeking your input on topics that you would like us to focus on in Office Hours or other settings. If you want to share those ideas with us, please complete this form.
Also, at the end of the January 14 Open Office Hour session, the CARLI offered a set of reminders on what type of information you should include when you send a problem report to CARLI Support. Please share this information with all your colleagues that send problem reports to us. When you contact CARLI Support, help us to help you better and faster by including these elements in your problem description:
• Who: Example of one or more users or patrons, or user group(s) that experience the issue
• What: MMS ID or barcode of one or more titles/items; Primo VE permalinks or search URLs
• When: Time the event occurred
• Where: What zone (IZ, NZ), library, menu, search
• Why: Describe the context; what you were trying to do
• How: Length for slow response time reports
• Screenshots (in Word files or PDFs) or short videos (with or without sound) can also be very helpful!
Adding these elements to your problem reports helps us to work more quickly and efficiently in addressing the issue or escalating it to Ex Libris Support as needed.
The next Alma Primo VE monthly software update will be applied all customers' systems in the early hours of Sunday, February 7, 2021. Ex Libris posts their Alma and Primo VE release notes about a month ahead of the release.
Lastly, another reminder that the new I-Share-wide policy prohibiting overdue fines for all but special resource collections like reserves and loanable equipment, and eliminating lost material "bill processing fees" went into effect as of January 1, 2021. Many I-Share libraries had already stopped these practices. CARLI surveyed libraries in the fall to ask those that were still doing these billings if they wanted CARLI Staff assistance in changing those policies or if they would make the adjustments themselves. If that task slipped off your proverbial radar screen and you would like our help, please contact us at CARLI Support.
During 2020–2021, the CARLI Preservation Committee is gathering snapshots from the diverse range of perspectives of CARLI member institutions to explore various responses to the pandemic. With specific institutional action, impacts on preservation practices, and keeping up with developing information, we hope that these snapshots will provide the broadest range of responses to shed some light on how our work can continue as well as to provide a record of how libraries responded during this unprecedented time.
This month, Meghan Ryan, Special Collections and Cataloging Librarian at National Louis University asked Anne Thomason, Associate Director of the Library and Head of Archives and Special Collections at the Donnelley and Lee Library at Lake Forest College to discuss her experiences.

The ILLINET Interlibrary Loan (ILL) & Reciprocal Borrowing Statistical Survey is now available . Libraries are required by administrative rule to complete the Illinois State Library's annual survey of interlibrary loan traffic. [23 Ill. Adm. Code 3030.200 (a) (2) (O)]
The FY2020 (Ju1y 1, 2019–June 30, 2020) ILLINET ILL Traffic Survey must be completed by March 31, 2021.
The ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code [23 ILL. Adm. Code 3030 Exhibit A] governs ILL among ILLINET member libraries.
