A meeting of the CARLI Library Governing Directors will precede the Annual Meeting. Directors should register for this meeting if they are planning to attend.
A separate registration is required for each meeting.
Join CARLI and the iSchool at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and attendees at CARLI's first ever Career Fair, for a reception/mixer on November 14, 5-7 p.m. The event will be an opportunity for networking, and socializing, and will launch an initiative to commemorate a special CARLI resource sharing 40th anniversary. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 101 Trade Center Drive, in Champaign.
ILDS will not provide delivery service on Thursday, November 28 or Friday, November 29. Both of these days are ILDS designated holidays. Service will resume on Monday, December 2.
The selection system is currently open for calendar year 2020 selections through November 8, please get your selections entered soon. This cycle includes products from AAAS, ACS, AMS, ACM, Duke University Press, Sage Premier and Wiley. If you have questions or need a login, email CARLI Support.
We have reached another milestone in our migration to Alma and Primo VE: as of October 23, every I-Share library now has access to a full test environment! The project is on schedule and we still expect to go live on June 24, 2020.
The test environments include the full set of data (bibliographic records, holdings, patrons, item status, and acquisitions data) from Voyager plus electronic resources data from SFX, or other e-resource systems that the libraries currently use.
The test environments will be in read-only status until November 6 so that library staff and CARLI staff can do some basic data checking before any changes are made to the test environment data or configuration. On and after November 6, libraries are encouraged to actively use their test environment for training, setting up user roles and policy configurations, and testing product integrations and planning for cutover to Alma. The configuration settings you set up in your test environment will persist into our production cutover so doing that testing and setup work now is a good investment of your time and energy. To repeat in slightly different words: Ex Libris and CARLI will refresh your data (bibliographic records, holdings, patrons, item status, and acquisitions data) in the production load in the spring, but your Alma settings and configurations in your test environment will be carried forward into your “real live” Alma next June.
Ex Libris is currently finishing up the indexing of our data for Primo VE and we expect to be able to roll out access to Primo VE during the week of November 11.
We also have a lot of activity on the training front: CARLI is hosting four sets of in-person Alma training this fall at UIS, Joliet Junior College, Wheaton College, and UIC. Nearly 200 I-Share library staff will be attending these sessions which are presented by Ex Libris staff and cover basic staff functions in Alma. If you were not able to attend or send staff to these sessions, we also have an upcoming series of interactive webinars scheduled for this fall. (See below for details) We also plan to host more in-person sessions in the spring at other locations, and don’t forget the wealth of online self-paced training in the Ex Libris Knowledge Center. Last but not least, CARLI and Ex Libris plan to continue our weekly Open Office Hours call each week. Open Office Hours connection information can be found by choosing the day you wish to join the discussion from the CARLI calendar.
Now that we have full test environments, the CARLI staff are actively working to test consortial functionality including the Network Zone for shared bibliographic data, and Alma’s "Automated Fulfillment Network" for consortial resource sharing. Watch for more information about these services in the weeks to come.

We could not have kept the project on schedule without your participation and collaboration and with the test environments in place, we are one giant step closer to a successful migration to Alma and Primo VE!
Ex Libris Alma trainers will present a series of live webinars for I-Share library staff this fall. The sessions will cover a variety of Alma-related topics from data review and purchasing to day-to-day patron services. The content is designed specifically for I-Share library staff. The sessions will be live and Q&A time will be included. CARLI will make recordings of these webinars available after the live presentations.

"CARLI Counts: Analytics and Advocacy for Service Development," is a three-year project funded by an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant, in the amount of $243,885.
CARLI Counts is a continuing education library leadership immersion program that prepares librarians to make effective use of research findings on the impact of academic libraries on student success for the twin purposes of service development and library advocacy. Program participants will learn how to use local library data analytics in alignment with institutional data, goals, and strategic priorities to improve their services and demonstrate their value. Deliverables will include a portfolio of local case studies, an evaluation of the collective statewide impact of those cases, and a replicable state/regional training model for equipping librarians to be campus leaders in assessing library impact on student learning and success, all of which will be made openly available on the CARLI website. CARLI is working in partnership with the University of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign and Lewis & Clark Community College.
Cohort members attend two, three-day in-person sessions, for a total of six in-person days; webinars held in April, May, June, September, and October; and work online collaboratively throughout the program, culminating in team presentations at the CARLI Annual Meeting in November.
Cohort 2 will meet February 18–20, and July 14–16, 2020, at the I Hotel in Champaign. Lodging and meals are paid for by the grant. Travel to Champaign will be the responsibility of the participant. Participants will also be expected to attend the CARLI Annual Meeting, on November 13, 2020, in Champaign. Cohort 2 will complete their work in early 2021. View the detailed timeline here.

CARLI member libraries have a crucial role to play in educating our student constituents and residents of the communities in which we live on the importance of Census 2020. Illinois is forecast to lose population in the upcoming census, affecting everything from the number of Illinois representatives in Congress, to local government representation, to the Library Services and Technology Act Grant and Illinois' allotment that is administered by the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State. College students are considered a "Hard to Count" population; their inclusion is essential for a fair and accurate count. Join this webinar to find out how CARLI member libraries can help promote Census 2020 and the participation of our students and communities.
Natalie Furlett is currently the Director of Campus Compact for Illinois, a partnership between 36 Illinois college and university campuses dedicated to upholding the public purpose of higher education. Prior to ILCC, Natalie spent time building student-community ties at Northwestern as the Coordinator of Student Community Service before taking on the role of Associate Director of the Norris Center for Student Involvement. She holds an MBA in Nonprofit Management from the American Jewish University in Los Angeles and a BA from the School of Public Administration at American University in Washington, DC. Natalie currently serves on the Governor′s Service Illinois Commission, IL Count Me In 2020 Steering Committee, and on the Board of Directors for The Safe Haven Network.
The first CARLI Article Club discussion is coming up on Wednesday, November 6 at 1 p.m. The article chosen for discussion is "Reframing Information Literacy as Academic Cultural Capital: A Critical and Equity-Based Foundation for Practice, Assessment, and Scholarship" by Amanda Folk.

For 2019-2020, the CARLI Preservation Committee is sharing a series of interviews with Preservation Managers, Conservators, and other library specialists who graciously described their experiences on preservation and conservation topics of interest to CARLI libraries.

CARLI libraries have been invited to participate in OCLC Global Council's Discovery + Fulfillment Survey.
OCLC's Global Council of library leaders wants to hear from you regarding your library's and customers' use and expectations related to discovery and fulfillment services. The goal of the survey is to engage a global audience of librarians to gain a shared understanding of the user expectations and challenges libraries are currently dealing with as they support discovery and fulfillment activities.
All types of libraries are encouraged to complete the survey. It is relevant to all staff who work with discovery and fulfillment activities in their library, especially those that work directly with library users. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and will be open until January 17, 2020.
