In 2006, as part of a project to highlight diversity in student news, efforts began to identify articles in the Daily Egyptian student newspaper relating to SIUC's historic African American and Latino campus populations. This ongoing project entails surveying microfilm, locating and scanning relevant articles, and creating searchable transcripts for Web access. Currently, the database spans the years 1930-1960.

The Daily Egyptian is preserved on microfilm in the Morris Library Special Collections Research Center.
