CARLI Governance Board Minutes, March 7, 2025

Decisions

• Minutes of the December 6, 2024, Governance Board meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
• The Board approved the timeline for the 2025 Governance Board election. Current Board members Stefanie Bluemle (Augustana College), Geoff Pettys (Southern Illinois University School of Medicine) and Morgann Quilty (Parkland College) will serve on the Nominating Committee. CARLI staff will coordinate the process. 
• The Board approved a proposal from the Archives Task Force to become a standing committee.
• The meeting was adjourned at 1:07 p.m.

Announcements

• The Statement on the Importance of Librarians in Academic Libraries has been endorsed by the Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).
• CARLI staff are currently collecting updated membership, I-Share and digital collections agreements from all CARLI member libraries.
• The CARLI Building Diversity Graduate Assistantship Program is on hiatus for the 25-26 academic year while the program is being re-evaluated.
• Anne Craig attended seven CARLI listening sessions hosted at CARLI member libraries for library directors. CARLI staff are reviewing feedback to identify opportunities for CARLI.
• Applications for new I-Share libraries will be available in FY26 pending the execution of the amendment to renew for the final three years of the agreement with Ex Libris/Clarivate.
• 63 CARLI member libraries committed funding for the FY26 ebook program. 64 CARLI member libraries participated in the FY25 ebook program.
• The E-Resources FY2025 Selection System will open March 31 through May 16, 2025.
• CARLI staff are working on a new Open Athens agreement.
• Six CARLI libraries presented OER projects during Open Education Week.
• CARLI will open the call for committee volunteers on March 12. The call will be open through early May. 
• CARLI will accept applications for the 2025 CARLI Scholarship starting the week of March 12. Applications are due by June 1. The scholarship is funded by donations and sponsorship fees from the CARLI Annual Meeting. 
• CARLI has submitted its FY26 proposed budget to the University of Illinois System Office for review. The budget modeled 2, 4, and 6% reduction scenarios for FY26 – FY28 as requested by the University of Illinois System Office (SO). 
• CARLI is co-hosting the North America meeting of the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) in Chicago May 4-7.
• Collaborating with our 15 Professional Development Alliance partners to share free,
• continuing education webinars among our members continues to be beneficial in FY25. Since our FY21 pilot, CARLI members have been invited to participate in 565 total programs offered by all participating consortia. 100 CARLI-hosted webinars have benefited 11,235 PDA registrants.
• CARLI is co-hosting the ACRL Assessment in Action Roadshow with Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University on June 5, 2025, at Illinois State University.
• CARLI staff are planning a 20th Anniversary celebration to be held in conjunction with the CARLI Annual Meeting in October 2025.

Tasks Assigned:

• CARLI staff will prepare and issue the Call for Nominations for the Governing Board Election.
• CARLI staff will prepare and issue the call for volunteers for CARLI committees. 
• The committee charge for the new Archives committee will be changed to include native born digital content.
• CARLI staff will begin the RFI/RFP process in the fall 2025 to look at database package options.
• CARLI staff will research where to report harassment and whether there is any UI legal support/protection for people who serve on CARLI committees
