Decisions

• Minutes of September 25, 2024 approved with corrections.
• New date for December meeting: December 11. CARLI staff will confirm with those not here today which time works better, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
• AI Symposium
  • Selected the date of April 25, 2025.
  • Sessions will be 50-minutes with a 10-minute break between sessions.
  • Preference is to record but will let committees participating decide about their sessions.
  • Program will be open to the Professional Development Alliance as well as other libraries in Illinois such as IHLS and RAILS members
  • Lesley will draft next message to participating committees and ask for confirmation of their participation before our December 11 meeting and abstracts and bios by our January 22, 2025 meeting.

Tasks Assigned

• Minutes taken by Jennifer Lau-Bond.
• Charity Ringel will research people we interviewed last year to see if any would be suitable as a keynote speaker for the AI Symposium.
• Leslie will email interested in CARLI committees to confirm their participation and give them details about the timeline for the AI Symposium. She will also follow up with the Instruction Committee.

Announcements

• Member Announcements:
  • Dawn Sterning (Prairie State College): Their library was approved to purchase new furniture. They are also considering doing a game night during the week prior to finals to get people in after hours.
  • Charity Ringel (University of Illinois Springfield): Charity attended the CARLI Annual Meeting and presented a CARLI Counts poster.
• CARLI Announcements:
  • CARLI Counts is seeking members for the new 2025 cohort. Applications are due December 6, 2024.
  • At the CARLI Annual Meeting, there was a table talk about generative AI. Amy took notes put in Box folder for this committee.
  • Denise Green is retiring October 31, 2024 and will be missed!
  • CARLI has hired an Electronic Resources Coordinator, Yanira Cruz. CARLI has hired a new Library Services Coordinator, Wyn Schell.
  • Theosophical Society in American in Wheaton has joined CARLI.

Discussion

• The December meeting will be moved from December 25 to Wed December 11. The first-choice time is 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., but 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. will be the second choice, depending on availability of members missing from today’s meeting.
• CARLI AI Symposium
  • An email was sent to CARLI committees, and the following were interested in participating in some kind of AI Symposium:
  • Discovery Primo VE
  • Commercial Products
  • DEI
  • Instruction: did not respond, we will follow up
  • Public Services: We could perhaps host a roundtable at the end rather than having to present ourselves.
  • Preservation suggested getting the InterPARES Trust organization to present or exploring copyright and AI.
• The program date will be Tuesday, April 15, 2025, sometime between 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for the Symposium.
  • Sessions will be 50 minutes with 10-minute breaks between.
• The program will be open attendance to the Professional Development Alliance and to RAILS and the Heartland Library System.
• Committee decided that their preference is to record each session but will let each committee determine if their session will be recorded.
• Lesley will draft another email to committees asking for confirmation of their participation before our December 11 meeting. We will ask them to submit abstracts and bios before our January 22 meeting.
