Announcements

- Watch for the Newsletter coming out on 9/11/15
- There will be Voyager training announcements, please encourage staff to participate.
- TBA soon: Preservation Workshop to be held in cooperation with University of Chicago and Center for Research Libraries.
- CARLI Annual Meeting (November 13, 2015)
- Since emphasis is celebration of thirtieth anniversary of consortium, we will probably not be asked to present our annual project this year.
- Migrating content from the Public Service Committee Wiki to the web page is still in process. The wiki is still functional.
Discussion
- PSC is still looking for partnering opportunities with other CARLI Committees. Here is what we know about plans for this year.
- Preservation: Focusing on AV preservation.
- Collection Management: Looking at cooperative collection development.
- Created Content: Seeking to gather and make available information about unique collections CARLI libraries have created.
- Instruction: May be offering webinars on outcomes assessment.
- Other Ideas for Annual Project
- Proposal is due November 2. Something may arise out of the survey sent to the discussion list.
- Collection Promotion: Jennifer raised the idea of exploring what others are doing to promote collections and increase use of physical collections.
- Gaming—offering gaming activities and curating resource around those games
- Displays and other tie-ins to campus events
- Is there a tie in to the work of the Created Content Committee?
- Last year, we also discussed expanding our work on Knowledge Management this year. Paula reported success incorporating Zotero into instruction. Next step might be a face-to-face session.
- Open Houses: The Resource Sharing Committee has sponsored three open houses, participants visit two libraries on one day and review Circ, ILL & related workflow and processes. We could do something similar for public service units.
- Assessment; Running Voyager reports; Appropriate use of data. This could be a follow up to the work the committee did two-years ago which produced a “best practices” summary. The follow up could explore what people are really doing.
- Scholarly software and productivity apps being used by librarians. There was discussion of how to collect and share information about products without it seeming that CARLI was endorsing (or panning) specific products. CARLI staff will look into policies on this problem.
- Survey
- Discussion of how to post responses to PSC group space. Elizabeth sent a link out to the space these would appear. Jennifer reported there are not any responses yet.
Tasks Assigned
- Raeann assigned minute-taker.
- Set duration of meeting at one hour.
- August minutes were approved.
- Review the Knowledge Management webinars to think about carrying on committee’s work with that topic.
Next Meeting Date and Deadlines:
- Our next meeting will be October 8 at 1:30 p.m. We will need to settle on our annual project at that meeting.
