Decisions

• March minutes were approved without further changes.
• If anyone would like to gather for an informal meet-up at ALA this year, please email the group to discuss scheduling
• Jade and Melina will share a draft of the annual report by Monday, May 8. Committee members please review and commend by May 10 meeting.

Announcements

• Committee Member Announcements: none
• CARLI Announcements:
  • The Boston Library Consortium and NEDCC are offering two upcoming preservation-related webinars on oral histories and digital preservation
  • UIUC will host two film preservation webinars next Tuesday, May 2. The morning session will be in English, and the afternoon in Spanish. The presentation is aimed at institutions with film collections who do not have media preservation specialists. Both sessions will be recorded.
  • During the March board meeting, CARLI approved the Archives Task Force, and the call for volunteers is currently open.
  • The Collection Management Committee surveyed Collection Management Committee surveyed archives in CARLI member institutions, and the survey report will be included in the committee’s annual report.

Discussion

• Annual Project – Archival Preservation 101
  • Tonia’s Preservation of Digital Material article has been submitted for April.
  • Melina’s article, due May 25, will focus on digital preservation of video games.
  • Jade will complete the wrap up of the annual project for June, which will also be included in the committee’s annual report.
• Checking Preservation Links
  • Heidi shared a blub for a link that was previously added, and Nicole will update the website.
• Revisit discussion of a water response event for fall 2023 by Chicago Area AFR/AIC  
  • Final details are still TBD, but likely to be a full day event held at Northwestern the week before Labor Day. The event will include presentations from experts, hands-on water salvage, and discussion. Tonia is finalizing details at Northwestern, and the Chicago AFR meets in early May. Will likely include space for 30 participants, unknown whether there will be a registration fee. More details will be shared once plans are finalized. Tonia asked for suggestions for experts to discuss water salvage of museum objects.

• Preservation Week (First week in May)
  • Northwestern will host an open house in their conservation lab. UIUC is hosting the film preservation webinars mentioned above.
• Revisit discussion of informal meeting at ALA (June 22-27 in Chicago)
  • If any committee members are planning to attend and would like to coordinate an informal meet-up, please email the group to discuss
• Annual Report
  • Melina and Jade will send a draft to the group by Monday, May 8. The group will comment and discuss at May 10 meeting. Elizabeth will share last year’s report, Jade will draft the project wrap-up, and Melina will draft the rest.
• Preservation Committee volunteers/nominations
  • Melina, Rob, Jade, and Ellen are scheduled to roll off. CARLI staff have received three volunteers so far, including two who would like to learn about preservation. Committee chairs or CARLI staff can reach out via email to possible recruits. Only one person from an institution can volunteer at a time. The volunteer deadline is May 5, though that is somewhat flexible. New chairs will be discussed during June meeting.
