• Member Announcements:
  • The University of Chicago Library is still hiring for positions that may be of interest to the committee and our networks. The list includes Director of Special Collections, several archivist positions, and Digital Scholarship Librarian among others. The full listing is on their website.
• CARLI Announcements:
  • Tuesday April 4, Professional Development Alliance Event: Intentionally Recruiting for Diversity in Librarianship: Reflections on a Year Later – participants in this grant project reflect on what they learned and highlight their work on the forthcoming toolkit.   • Thursday May 4, Public Services Committee Informal Discussion: about how academic libraries are working to make their public services more inclusive and accessible. View: https://www.carli.illinois.edu/public-services-informal-discussion
  • Thursday April 27, Collection Management Committee:  discussion about diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to build DEI into collection management processes (not yet on the CARLI calendar).
  • May, CARLI Virtual Course: Understanding and Promoting Open Educational Resources: aimed at faculty and focused on pedagogy in the use of OER materials in the classroom. Held in three weekly sessions the first three weeks of May in two tracks: Mondays OR Fridays.

Discussion

• Annual project of Archival Preservation 101 articles. Bridget completed the Cloud vs. Physical article; it is ready to publish on the website and will be shared in the CARLI newsletter. Tonia is working on the April article about websites/ web crawling archives/old phones/computers article, to be completed by April 20, 2023.
• Updates to the Preservation Links were discussed. Rob and Bridget identified broken links and offered suggestions links for the General Preservation & Conservation resources.
• Revisit discussion of a water response event for fall 2023: Tonia and Shelby are talking with the Chicago Area Alliance for Response/AIC and will see what it plans for fall 2023. Perhaps this group can explore an event for spring 2024.
• Revisit plans for Preservation Week (first week in May): Shelby wondered about any other planned events for this week. Tonia said Northwestern will offer a tour of the preservation lab. Melina said UChicago may hold an open house of its conservation facilities. Elizabeth said any announcements can be posted by CARLI.  
• Annual Report is due at the end of May then all committee members should review a draft by the May 10th meeting.
• Informal discussion amongst members about an in-person meeting of this committee and ALA Conference plans in Chicago to be held in Chicago, IL― June 22-27, 2023.
