Decisions

  • Chris Diaz will be taking minutes.
  • Minutes for October meeting were approve without amendments.
  • Open Textbook Network training sessions will take place on Monday, April 23rd at Governor’s State University, Tuesday, April 24th at Loyola University Chicago, and Wednesday, April 25th at Heartland Community College.
  • Discussion about Open Education Week (March 5-9, 2018) planning is tabled for the in-person meeting.

Tasks Assigned

  • Annette will confirm with the LUC workshop site the capabilities for streaming for interactive workshops.
  • After hearing back about LUC capabilities, CARLI staff will ask the OTN representatives about their comfort with streaming the April 24th workshop online.
  • CARLI staff will ask the LOUIS, VIVA and OhioLINK consortia about system leader roles and responsibilities for the OTN workshops.
  • Chris will send and announcement to CARLI email lists about crowdsourcing CARLI OER website content by November 30th.
  • All task force members were assigned editorial responsibilities for the sections of the CARLI OER website. We are responsible for editing the content that is contributed via CARLI members and filling in the gaps by January 11th. See discussion for section assignments.
  • CARLI staff will publish the content from the Google folder to the CARLI OER website by January 16th.  

Announcements

  • Members (what is happening locally):
    • Northern Illinois University started a textbook task force to study the costs of textbooks. The task force includes library staff.
    • Illinois State University has a “Textbook Affordability Committee,” driven by students. The committee includes representatives from the university registrar, student affairs, and teaching faculty. During Open Access Week, ISU did an in-house presentation on OER for librarians. A version of this presentation will be presented for the committee members.
    • Loyola University Chicago’s new Associate Dean and head of public services will meet with student government about textbook reserves and needs. Room reservation is confirmed for CARLI member workshop on April 24th at Loyola University Chicago’s downtown campus.
  • CARLI Update:
    • CARLI Annual meeting: Anne and Sue gave a presentation on the OER Task Force. The presentation was well-received. Most of the audience’s interest was in learning how to get started with OER promotion.
    • OTN Library MARC records are in the I-share catalog, but the records are not publicly visible from the VuFind catalog yet.

Discussion

  • Sharing information with CARLI Members:
    • Piece in upcoming CARLI newsletter (Elizabeth C.). Elizabeth will include our OTN reflection paragraphs.
    • Webinar (Chernaik, Diaz, Shelley) is scheduled for January 17, 2-3:30. Registration will be open in time for the newsletter.
    • Open Education Week: March 5-9, 2018. Discussion is tabled for in-person meeting.
  • CARLI OER Website Development

    • The task force will content and website ideas to these Google docs: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1V4uGzwdIv9caKmkvXt7upPYytE90pWCe?usp=sharing
    • It would be preferable to have some content up before the webinar on January 17th.
    • We can send out a message to CARLI lists and include a call for participation in Nov. 29th/30th newsletter.
      • Deadline: Tuesday, January 9th for CARLI member contributions to the website
      • By Thursday the 11th, Task Force members will have their edits ready for the website
      • By Tuesday the 16th, CARLI staff will post content from the docs to the website.
