This meeting featured the first full review of the document drafted by the Knowledge Bases and Linking specification team. Task Force members examined the specifications for the link resolver section, then moved into discussing knowledge base issues. The document uses OpenURL terminology as much as possible, but some terms still require definition.
Additional discussion centered on the value of establishing a link resolver as an integrated component, and the use of phrases, "will provide" versus "should provide." Some ambiguity is present on the use of terms "global" and "collection.” The Task Force directed the team to continue refining the document, focusing on ranking scoring elements, and determine the relationship of knowledge base specifications and the selecting & acquiring processes for electronic resources management.
After receiving updates from the other specification teams, members developed a set of questions for the July 8 meeting with Purchasing staff. Concerns shared included the scoring matrix and procedure for reviewing bids, and identifying fall-back options if no bids meet required specifications.
