For this meeting, Task Force focused on the creation of specification teams. The TF decided to form four teams, using the “working” task areas: Acquiring/Selecting, Describing, Sharing, and Knowledge bases. The TF expects that the knowledge bases area will include functionality related to the use and sharing of collection level data from third parties (e.g., resource vendors, bibliographic utilities, cooperative collections like HathiTrust, and other libraries), as well as functionality for link resolvers. TF members acknowledged difficulties that this area might hold for specification teams, as these functions overlap, and are in some ways central to the other three working areas.
The Task Force reviewed the applications received and assigned those that offered the best levels of expertise to the four teams. In some areas, the TF decided that additional expertise would be needed, and members suggested sending invitations to some of those who applied for membership on the Task Force. Each team will be convened by two or three Task Force members. A CARLI staff member will likely join each team ex officio. Each team will be given a similar charge and deadlines for a first draft due in April, with their final draft due in June. The Task Force will deal with any redundancies in the specs during July.
The Task Force also discussed items to be provided as an update for the CARLI Board meeting in March. These items will include information about the specification teams and follow-up on the vendor webinars.
