CARLI UPDATES

  • The CARLI Public Services Committee welcomes all CARLI members to an hour program, What Do We Do Now? Generative AI and the Academic Library's Role on Campus on Monday, June 24 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m
  • CARLI OCLC and Alma webpage has been published.
  • Streamlined holdings and data sync webpages are also being updated
  • Display logic rules – in the process of implementing; announcement should be coming soon
    • Network Zone Display Logic Rules for EBSCO and Open Access Collections
      • Implementing this week; keeping just one EBSCO database if available through more than one; publisher open access vs. aggregated open access and free titles
      • Network Zone rules – unclear if IZ rules take precedent, if talking about the same collections they do
      • Can’t opt out of NZ rules. NZ rules apply to all institutions. In future Alma updates IZ rules might be able to include NZ collections.
    • Display logic rules haven’t been publicly shared yet. Denise to follow up with Megan R. on how to present those.
  • Statewide package – EBSCO – 3 year commitment with 7 optional renewals
    • List of resources being provided to all libraries in the state sent via email. If libraries were subscribing to any resources, they have been unselected by CARLI and libraries have been contacted.
    • Some of the resources overlap with what is already provided by CARLI. CARLI is in negotiations with EBSCO to renegotiate the CARLI-provided package. If the new package overlaps with current selections, CARLI will unselect. If the new package overlaps with EBSCO-directly subscribed content, libraries have to work directly with EBSCO.
    • State hasn’t announced it yet
    • CARLI staff asking for input about activating these additional resources in the network zone (which should be included/continue to be included)

committee updates

  • Andrea Imre and Liz Hollendonner are rolling off the committee; Megan Ruenz has accepted another appointment
  • New members: Jacob Del Rio (SIE), Joanna Kolendo (CSU), and Elizabeth Outler (DPU)
  • Co-chairs for 2024-2025 Elizabeth Nelson and Jennifer Patterson.

Discussion

  •  Discussion on the ERMC Annual Report, Chairperson, and new members
    • Robin Hofstetter will write the report and submit it for approval by the committee by May 29th.
    • For continuation of future projects to include in the report:
      • Browser changes that can impact users of Google Chrome, including the hide IP feature, removing link decoration, and third-party cookie tracking.
      • Work continues organizing the OCLC data sync.
    • Elizabeth Nelson will serve as co-chair with another member yet to be determined.
    • There are nine positions on the ERMC, not including the CARLI staff. Three committee members terms end on June 30, 2024. In addition, there is one two year term vacancy to fill.
  • Other end of academic year discussions:
    • EPOCH Times is contacting multiple staff members at some institutions.
    • Alternative options for Nexis Uni for use by academic departments such as criminal justice, political science, and international studies. One alternative is Hein Online, although Nicole Ream-Sotomayor mentioned that the Commercial Products Committee will send out a survey to help CARLI members gather insight into brokering needs.
    • Infobase negotiations were unsuccessful, and CARLI members will renew directly through Infobase.
