Announcements

CARLI Updates

  • Elizabeth reported on the CARLI ebook program for FY25. The Wiley ebooks will include all subjects with pub. dates from 2020 on; from Oxford, 8 subjects, pub. dates 2020-March 2025; and U of I Press via JSTOR, dates from 2015 on, all subjects. JSTOR is working out access for CARLI members.
  • Denise announced an upcoming Public Services Committee program, "What Do We Do Now? Generative AI and the Academic Library's Role on Campus," Monday 6/24 from 1-2pm
  • Jenny reported that the Illinois statewide database package has been finalized, as shared previously via email. The databases will be turned on in CARLI members’ EBSCOadmin by Monday 6/17. Because of overlap between the statewide package and current CARLI-funded EBSCO databases, CARLI has been working on an amendment to their license, so that members can get even better value out of the CARLI package. This updated database list is expected to be announced at the end of this week.
  • Denise will be retiring on November 1st, and a search for her replacement will begin later this summer.
  • As this is the last CPC meeting of the year, CARLI staff thanked everyone on the committee for their service. Jessica, Michele, and Sarah have expiring terms. Michele is joining again for another term, while Jessica and Sarah are rotating off.
  • The new committee members for 2024-25 are Rosalind Fielder-Giscombe (Chicago State University) and Audra Deemer (DePaul University).

Discussion

PRODUCT PROPOSALS

  • There were no product proposals this month

new state and carli databases

  • Continuing from the CARLI updates, Jenny shared a document with the proposed list of databases in the CARLI package and requested feedback and questions. The group responded positively to the selections and agreed the databases would provide a lot of good new content for a wide range of institutions/types of libraries in CARLI.
  • CARLI has notified libraries who had CARLI subscriptions (on the EBSCO platform) that are covered under the statewide package.
  • For libraries who do business directly with EBSCO, they can decide not to renew databases covered in the CARLI or statewide package.
  • An announcement will be forthcoming re: activation of content in the I-Share Network Zone, since this would reduce duplicate effort.
    • A question came up about the option to opt-out of NZ-activated collections. This is something CARLI staff will continue to explore.
  • On the timeframe for potentially selecting new databases in place of ones covered through the CARLI package, Jenny said that subscriptions picked up for start dates after July 1 could have their costs prorated.
  • Ashtin suggested promoting the new content in terms of the # titles added, and that it would be good to include in the CARLI value letter.
