- Carl Lehnen (May 10), Kris Veldheer (May 31), and Janice Derr (June 7) will serve as webinar moderators. Briana Love will monitor chat (May 10). Chat monitors needed for May 31 and June 7.
Announcements
- Member Announcements:
- Gwen Gregory (NIU): Discover Books suddenly shut down recently. Libraries are trying to figure out what to do, including with bins from Discover.
- CARLI Announcements:
- Ebooks: Agreements in place with Wiley and Oxford to continue EBA. Coverage will move forward one year, with oldest titles from 2020. For Oxford, will get new content up to March 2025, and add back Psychology and Sociology subject areas. Still working on agreement for University of Illinois Press titles.
- CARLI committee volunteer form is open through May 3.
- CARLI scholarship application open until June 1. Provides financial assistance to employees of governing members pursuing library degree at U of I.
- Professional Development Alliance Events.
- Poison in the Stacks? Ongoing Research on Heavy Metals in 19th Century Books April 30, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
- Mental Health in Library Settings Training Course May 8, 1:00-2:00 p.m.
- New I-Share libraries have received test data loads. Will be online by end of June and resource sharing by July. City Colleges of Chicago, Elgin Community College, College of Lake County, Chicago Theological Seminary, Prairie State College.
- Selection system for FY25 resources is open until May 10. CARLI was not able to come to an agreement with Infobase, so members wishing to renew must deal with vendor directly. Bloomsbury contract is being finalized, but pricing is in selection system.
- Selection system software is near end of life. Planning to move to Consortia Manager for calendar year 2025 renewals.
- Libraries wishing to join WEST can ask for a quote by May 10. Deadline to join is May 17.
Discussion
- Weeding and Shifting Webinars:
- May 10 (moderator: Carl Lehnen, chat monitor: Briana Love), May 31 (moderator: Kris Veldheer, chat monitor: TBD), and June 7 (moderator: Janice Derr, chat monitor: TBD), at 11am-12pm.
- To accommodate panelist schedules, webinars won’t be separated by shifting and weeding.
- Jen will confirm dates with speakers and ask for slides to be sent the Wednesday prior to the date.
- Format: Participants will speak for 3-5 minutes with 1-2 slides, giving general overview of project, including data points, timeline, and/or a photo. Remainder of session will be Q&A, with moderator using pre-set questions if no questions from audience.
- Jen and Elizabeth will confirm with Professional Development Alliance about whether the webinar fits their parameters for sharing.
- Weeding webpage:
- Outline has been created. Committee members should fill in with examples or suggestions as appropriate. Can also use information that comes up during the webinars.
- Question from Anne Craig: does the committee anticipate in person programming for FY25 that needs to be budgeted for? No plans at this point.
