Ongoing Projects Updates
- Featured Image (Ellen)
- No report. Jen will post later today.
- Digitized Books (Alice)
- Humming along. Ian posted last week.
- Podcast (Margaret)
- Two podcasts were recorded this month—one on the Tumblr project, posted to iTunes U last week, and another with Sandra Fritz and Andrew Bullen of the Illinois State Library on the DPLA Illinois Digital Heritage Hub.
- Margaret stated that obtaining statistics on the number of podcast listeners is not possible under the current setup.
- A link to the podcasts from Tumblr was suggested.
- Amy is working with the CARLI webmaster to post the podcasts on iTunes, the CARLI website, and elsewhere.
- Margaret advocated for other committee members to take turns as hosts, as the original intention was for hosting responsibilities to be shared.
- Members were encouraged to think about ideas for future podcasts.
- Google Analytics (Adam, Margaret)
- Alice liked the new breakdown of data and noted a number of hits from Facebook.
- Hits from Tumblr will be a point of interest in the data from this first quarter.
- Tumblr Project Update
- All members participating in the pilot project have cycled through as of this week.
- Jen emailed a snapshot of statistics from the last month, also available on the dashboard.
- Ian commented on the difficulty of curating with the restricted number of institutions. The decision to expand is up to CARLI managers, and Amy has asked them to review that standing.
- The white paper, due toward the end of May, should address outcomes and whether to continue or expand the project beyond this fiscal year.
- The existing Tumblr workflow document, to which Jen and Alice have added other resources, will be used the starting point for the white paper.
- Alice proposed conducting a literature review.
- Alice will set up a Google doc for the white paper.
- Posting watermarked images was discussed.
- The question of how to boost the number of followers was raised. Hearting and reblogging are left to the discretion of the member on weekly rotation; recommendations included making reblog decisions based on current events in the news and establishing a per-day quota so as not to make our own posts less visible.
- Members of institutions with Twitter accounts should ask to have the Tumblr link tweeted as part of the effort to increase followers.
Meeting adjourned at 11:27 a.m.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be March 22, 2016.
