CONFERENCE CALL

Discussion of Current Committee Activities

DIGITIZED ITEMS FOR CARLI WEBSITE

  1. Book of the Month: Alice is taking over this project to periodically feature CARLI-sponsored items in the Internet Archive. 
  2. Featured Image: Ellen, Anne, Alice, and Mary plan to continue for the remainder of the term.

PODCASTS

  1. Two more podcasts have been recorded and published on the CARLI website. One has been put in iTunesU and the other will be soon.
  2. Paul and Howie will work on the next podcast about the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). Amy will send DPLA contact information to Paul and Howie. Amy noted that the Illinois State Library will submit a DPLA application in the summer.

USE OF CARLI DIGITAL COLLECTIONS SURVEY

  1. Some adjustments were made to the survey and introduction.
  2. Amy will send the revised version to the Created Content Committee. She will send it to her supervisor for a general review in January.
  3. The survey will be sent to the directors email list on Jan. 21. It will be due on Feb. 20. A reminder will be sent on the 13th or 16th.

Other Business

YEARBOOK DIGITIZATION

CARLI received a proposal from Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) to digitize course catalogs in lieu of yearbooks or newspapers (156 catalogs, 20,000 pages). The committee approved digitizing the first 50 catalogs (IWU’s priority). If there is money left at the end of the yearbooks/newspapers project, the committee will approve additional IWU course catalogs for digitization.

CONTENTDM UPGRADE

CONTENTdm upgrade: CARLI is waiting to hear back from the outsourced programmer to get remaining issues with the upgrade resolved. The upgrade will not affect the backend client and processes, but workflow will need to be suspended for a short time during the upgrade. CARLI may be ready for the upgrade in March or April. The committee agreed that a mid-semester upgrade would be fine.
