The University Library of Governors State University is inviting experienced applicants for the newly created position of Department Chair of the University Library at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The position is a 12-moth appointment and reports to the Dean of the University Library.
The chair, working with the dean, is responsible for development of library personnel's schedules and annual work plans, evaluation of library faculty, civil service and support personnel, collaborate with the other academic units and assist the dean in overseeing a two-million-dollar budget. The chair will supervise the librarians, including the head of Technical and Public services. The chair will also work with the dean in planning for the future, revitalizing and modernizing the informational holdings (both physical and digital) and work on planning as needed for the proposed new library building. Additionally, the Department Chair will work with the Dean on hiring and evaluation processes for tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty; resolve student concerns; and represent the Library and Dean's Office internally and externally. The Department Chair has the primary responsibility for providing leadership and academic coordination of resources of the library
