Decisions

  • Minutes of the December 8, 2023, Board meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The Board approved the timeline for the 2024 Governance Board election. Current Board members Stephanie Davis-Kahl (Illinois Wesleyan University), Dennis Krieb (Lewis and Clark Community College) and Pattie Piotrowski (University of Illinois Springfield) will serve on the Nominating Committee, with Board Chair Matt Ostercamp serving as an ex officio member. CARLI staff will coordinate the process.
  • The Board approved a proposal from the Archives Task Force to extend the term of the Archives Task Force for one year. The term will now end June 30, 2025.
  • The Board approved the motion to sunset the Created Content Committee.
  • The Board approved the request to enable Alma’s anonymization features beginning in FY25.
  • The Board approved the motion to make the DEI Task Force a permanent committee.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 2:49 p.m.

Announcements

  • Work continues as CARLI staff are planning a symposium to celebrate intellectual freedom along with the University of Illinois President’s Office and the U of I Press. The Free People Read Freely Symposium will be held on August 20 & 21, 2024.
  • CARLI and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are currently completing testing on the Shared Institutional Repository Project. Four libraries began the Pilot phase on March 1, 2024. CARLI has released an interest survey to provide useful data on the number of libraries interested in a shared IR and how much they might pay for the service.
  • CARLI has finalized an agreement with Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST) for shared print journal storage. Interested CARLI member libraries will be able to opt into WEST membership in Spring 2024.
  • CARLI hosted five webinars during Open Education Week 2024.
  • CARLI Illinois SCOERs projects were presented during Open Education Week. CARLI will apply for a one-year no-cost extension for the Illinois SCOERs grant in June 2024.
  • CARLI has released results from the 2023 Illinois Course Materials Survey. A webinar featuring student panelists was held on March 5. The report. “2023 Illinois Course Materials Survey: Student Perspective Report,” and the webinar are available from the CARLI website.
  • The CARLI Building Diversity Graduate Assistant Program (BDGAP) is accepting applications for the third year of the program. The program is supported in FY25 by CARLI and the University of Illinois System Office.
  • The E-Resources FY2025 Selection System will be open April 1 through May 10, 2024. Forty-one new resources will be offered.
  • CARLI is working on e-resources contract renewals with Bloomsbury and Infobase.
  • The CARLI Commercial Products Committee is surveying members for information about their needs for e-resources that will assist in evaluating vendor proposals and making informed e-resource purchasing choices.
  • The CARLI Commercial Products Committee is reviewing proposals for products to replace the current end-of-life Selection System for members to make their e-resources choices for their libraries.
  • CARLI member libraries have committed $285,525 to support an FY24 Ebook program.
  • CARLI will accept applications for the 2024 CARLI Scholarship starting the week of March 11. Applications are due June 1. The scholarship is funded by donations and sponsorship fees from the CARLI Annual Meeting.
  • Work continues adding the City Colleges of Chicago, College of Lake County, Chicago Theological Seminary, Elgin Community College and Prairie State College to I-Share.
  • CARLI is in talks with Ex Libris about possible options for implementing unlimited named users for I-Share. CARLI staff met to discuss options with UI Purchasing on Feb. 29, 2024.
  • The CARLI Professional Development Alliance collaboration with 12 other library consortia has resulted in 79 programs during the current fiscal year. Ten of those programs have been offered by CARLI, reaching 1372 registrants.
  • CARLI has submitted its FY25 proposed budget to the University of Illinois System Office for review.
  • CARLI will hold the New Directors’ Institute on May 22 and 23, 2024.

Tasks Assigned:

  • CARLI staff will prepare and issue the Call for Nominations for the Governing Board Election.
  • CARLI staff will prepare and issue the call for volunteers for CARLI committees and task forces.
  • CARLI Staff will prepare a draft of the new charge for a Diversity Equity Inclusion Committee.
