This digital collection contains nearly 1,200 images of drawings for railroad cars manufactured, owned, and operated by the Chicago-based Pullman Company. These engineering drawings (ca. 1870-1969) include floor plans for sleeping, dining, and lounge cars, as well as duct layouts, heating pipe diagrams, side elevations, and underneath equipment layouts. The drawings form part of the Pullman Company Archives held by the Newberry Library.
The floor plan pictured here was originally drawn on January 16, 1940, on linen. The annotations identify the drawing as plan number 3984. In addition to the seating arrangement, the drawing shows some of the specifications for a men’s toilet. Other drawings in the collection may include additional details such as tracing number, issues number, or car name.
