The Ames Library has undertaken an ongoing project to preserve The Argus, a weekly newspaper published by IWU students since 1894. This digital collection contains the volumes beginning with the January 2004 issues and is added to at the end of each calendar year—the issues from 2008 have already been made available. (Volumes from 1894 to 2003 can be found in a separate database on the library’s web site.)
IWU’s first “scholar at risk” headlines this issue (Volume 111, Issue 2) dated September 17, 2004. Further down the page is an article by staff writer Sarah Zeller covering “Ba-Rock the Vote,” a meeting to recruit volunteers for Barack Obama’s campaign for U.S. Senate, accompanied by a photograph of the candidate and his wife Michelle. Other front page stories include the renaming of a residence hall, an alumnus running for State Representative, and a music professor receiving his 17th ASCAP award.
